Bullets for the Gladiator in Scarlino

Audacious manoeuvre at the pin "the start of the season"

....on the same day as Brits in Bermuda fail to pull off a similar tactic in run-up to the Americas Cup.

The shore team that worked tirelessly to have the Gladiator A boat ready for the first of the TP52 Super Series Med events in Scarlino, just weeks after a serious collision in Miami, were rewarded with a spectacular win on day two of racing in the Rolex TP52 World Championships.

The start in Race 3 has been dubbed the start of the season, as two-times Americas Cup winner tactician Ed Baird and team owner Tony Langley on the helm, pulled off a spectacularly audacious pin end start to comfortably lead the 10 boat fleet around the course.

On the same day, Sir Ben Ainslie on board Land Rover BAR was carrying out a similar manoeuvre in an attempt to win the pin in the run up to the Americas Cup in Bermuda. But Ainslie's attempt didn't turn out quite as planned and unfortunately resulted in a collision with the Emirates Team New Zealand boat.

Back in Italy the Gladiator team went on to their second bullet in Race 7, but gear failures in two other races piled on 10 points each leaving the team to finish 5th overall in the 10 boat fleet.

Next up the TP52 Super Series moves to Porto Cervo Sardinia for the Audi Sardinia Cup June 21-25.
