Radical design changes to Gladiator "A" boat

Valencia, 24 March

2015 was a disappointing Med season for the Gladiator, the sailing team rarely managing to finish in the top half of the fleet at any of the five Med series regattas with the newly launched TP52. Every event ended in a slaying in this, the world's foremost mono-hull yacht racing circuit, which saw the new 2015 rule lift the performance bar higher still for the competing boats.

However, victory in the Royal Yacht Squadron Bicentenary Regatta held in Cowes in August with the "B" boat pointed to just one thing: the "A" boat wasn't performing as it should.

Through the winter the design and shore team have been working on radical modifications to the keel, rig and rudder in a bid to find pace. The new set up was put to the test at a training regatta in Valencia last week. Click here to read Yachts and Yachting's coverage of the event and conclusions.
